CookieMix in a Jara fun gift to put together for a cookie fan, not necessarily just at holiday time..
Ingredients for the cookie mix:
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (Wondra works fine)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup candy-coated chocolates (aka plain M&M’s)
2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup sweetened dried cranberries
1/2 cup walnut pieces
Additional materials:
2-quart glass jar with lid
5 x 7 index card (if you want to printinstructions below, rather than cutting & pasting what’s printed below)
ribbon to decorate the jar
optional: cinnamon sticks or something festive to tie in the ribbon
Preparation time:
Finding the 2-quart jar can be time consuming — try a good hardware store.
Otherwise, takes about 20 minutes to put everything together once you have ingredients and materials on hand.
Baking time: 12 – 14 minutes (but, then, that’s not what you’ll be doing)
Makes 1 gift jar; 3 dozen cookies.
This photo shows project in progress.
(Decided to wrap this gift in a red-and-white kitchen towel.)
When you have put the gifts together, highlight, copy and print the following instructions — just what appears between the lines of lights — and include them in a small envelope attached to the outside of the jar: (Alternatively, just print instructions on an index card and include with the gift.)
CookieMix in a Jar — This cookie mix will keep for several months in a cool, dry place.
You will need two baking sheets, 3 eggs, 3 sticks of butter and some vanilla extract. An oven is helpful!
Just add butter, eggs and vanilla extract — yummy cookies in less than 15 minutes!
Baking Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Grease 2 baking sheets.
In a large bowl, using a wooden spoon, combine 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) softened butter, 3 eggs and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
Stir in cookie mix, a little at a time, until well blended.
Drop dough by tablespoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto prepared baking sheets. Bake cookies until golden brown, 12-14 minutes.
Transfer baking sheets to wire racks; cool for 5 minutes. Transfer cookies to the racks to cool completely.
(Want to make just a few cookies, you do the math! Probably have to do at least a third. Save the rest for later.)
Good luck!
